USPS Letter Carriers' Food Drive is May 14--Help!

on Wed, 04/20/2016 - 18:46

Every year the USPS Letter Carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive brings us many hundreds of pounds of food. We love the support, but it's always a challenge to cope with the deluge. If you're available on Saturday, May 14 from 1:00-6:00 (or any portion thereof), please come to the Food Pantry and help us sort through the bounty. If you're interested, let us know by using the website Contact form, or leaving a message at 781-275-7355. Many thanks!

Thanks, Job Lane Elementary School!

on Mon, 04/04/2016 - 20:48

We wish to extend our thanks to all the students and their parents of Job Lane Elementry School for another successful Super Bowl food drive.  On Thursday, March 24, Keith Kinney, Assistant Principal, along with Mr. and Mrs. Venuti, loaded up the Bedford Farms truck and delivered 3,500 non perishable food items to the pantry.  This was the largest Super Bowl food drive ever, and we want to extend special thanks to the students who took the time to sort the items into cartons.

25 Years of Bedford Community Dinners - We Need Two Volunteers Starting in September

on Tue, 03/22/2016 - 00:00

Looking for a volunteer position? We have offered free weekly dinners almost every Thursday during the past 25 school years (September to May), and starting this fall we'll need two more volunteers in order to keep them going.  Everyone involved enjoys being part of this sociable community effort, and we hope you'll join us! Here's what's available:

Dinner Coordinator:

The coordinator oversees the dinner program, including setting up the schedule of cooks, servers, and the clean-up crews; sending weekly reminder notices to dinner volunteers; finding volunteers to fill holes in an existing schedule; and coordinating volunteers from home through E-Mail and phone calls. This job can be done on your own schedule.

Dinner Host:

The host comes to each dinner, greets dinner guests, helps servers, and troubleshoots any problems that come up.  The time requirement is each Thursday from 4:30 to 5:45 PM during the school year.

If you would like to learn more about any of these opportunities, please use the website contact form, or leave a message with your contact info at 781-275-7355. We look forward to hearing from you!

9th Turkey Trot a smashing success!

on Fri, 12/04/2015 - 00:32

The ninth annual Bedford Turkey Trot, a fun run/walk held Thanksgiving morning, was a resounding success, as close to 400 participants enjoyed their Turkey Day exercise and raised over $10,000 for the food pantry. Both participation and donations were dramatically higher than last year's results, the previous record. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all the participants and volunteers, and especially race organizer Rich Hamilton. The Turkey Trot is our single biggest fundraiser, and provides important support to our mission of providing food to local people in need. Read more about this year's race in this article from the Bedford Citizen.
